英国文化协会近日指出，根据最新出炉的IELTS雅思国际英语(论坛)测验全球排名，台湾英语能力在亚洲14个国家和地区中排名第13，仅略微领先中国大陆。

剑桥大学英语考试院（Cambridge ESOL） 9月公布2008年IELTS雅思国际英语测验全球排名，台湾考生的平均总分小幅进步，从去年5.59分提升为今年5.66分（满分为9分）。
 
IELTS包含听、说、读、写，以生活化及具实用性考题为主，并分学术组（欲申请国外留学者）及一般测验组（申请移民者）。目前除英国、澳洲、纽西兰、加拿大以及欧洲的教育系统採纳IELTS为英语能力认证指标之外，美国也有许多学校採用IELTS。
